Als Verstärkung für unser Team suchen wir am Standort München eine/nPhD student within the EU research project ECO DRIVE (f/m/x)Stellenreferenz: 11625THE FUTURE IS WHAT WE CREATE WHEN WE TAKE OUR VISIONS TO THE LIMITS.PHD AT THE BMW GROUP.Bridging the gap between your doctoral studies and the kind of career challenge you’re looking for isn’t always easy. That’s why our ProMotion PhD programme gives you the opportunity to apply your passion and scientific expertise to very real challenges that could shape the future of mobility. If selected, you’ll have the chance to really develop your own future career path with us through your practice-related thesis, promote your chosen specialty from within – and position yourself to secure the career you’ve always wanted. This PhD position is part of the “ECO DRIVE” project as ESR12 (Early Stage Researcher), funded by the European Commission through the H2020 “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks” (ITN) program (grant number 858018) and focusing on noise and vibration in eco-efficient powertrains of future vehicles. Different universities and companies in Europe are part of the project, which includes various training and exchange periods for all the PhD candidates involved. For further information on the H2020 “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks” (ITN) program, please also refer to the official websites: https://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/node_en or https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/.The application context is the global design process for the next generation of electrified powertrains, including hybridized engines, electric motors, gearboxes, drivelines, etc. The ongoing massive electrification of powertrains brings quite a large number of challenges in car industry, particularly in engineering and design concerning acoustic issues. Scientific framework:The project addresses the acoustic modelling and testing of electric vehicle drivetrains from noise sources such as the electromagnetics and the gear noise, and how this all impinges on the driver’s ear. High-frequency structure-borne noise isolation at the coupling of the powertrain to the car body will be investigated. The simulation and testing of elastomer mounts will be addressed in particular. Key innovation beyond the state of the art: The development of methods to enable robust concept standards that consider a variety of different trade-offs. What awaits you?Modelling and testing methods to describe the dynamics and develop the acoustics of electric vehicles.Investigation of high frequency structure borne noise isolation at the coupling of the powertrain to the car body.Simulation and testing of elastomer mounts.Prof. Wim Desmet (KU Leuven) and Dr. Arthur Hülsmann (BMW) will supervise the PhD. The PhD will take place in Germany (Munich), with secondments to KU Leuven (Belgium) and Siemens Industry Software (Belgium), and including a competitive salary and living allowance (in alignment with H2020 ITN allowances). What do you bring with you? Master Degree in mechanical engineering, physics or similar.Experiences in vehicle acoustic, electric drivetrains and simulation tools are beneficial. Candidates must meet the eligibility conditions of ETN projects: Not been residing in Germany for more than 12 months in the past 3 years immediately before the date of recruitment Not been involved in research for more than 4 years (full time equivalent) starting to count the date the candidate graduated his/her first MSc degree.
